I am the proud mother of an amazing and gifted 5 year old

He sees the world from a different view, and it’s okay!
“I may have been born
different and misunderstood
from birth, but I know
there is a place for me,
somewhere in this
universe”
- Alyson Bradley
Many people look at him but they
do not see that he is special,
they see a normal little boy.
But look closer.....
“Autism is a separate
world:
Love can build a
bridge”
-Anonymous

"What
would happen if the autism gene
was
eliminated from the gene pool?
You would
have a bunch of people standing around in a cave, chatting and socializing
and not
getting anything done."

My son
Andrew was diagnosed with Autism two years ago just after his
third
birthday. At the time that he was diagnosed, he had little to no
speech and
was considered “severe”. Because we were aware of his
Autism at
such a young age we were able to help him learn and to
grow the
way that works for him. He will always be Autistic,
but with
the help of his school, his doctors, and his family,
Andrew is learning
how to communicate with others and
express
himself comfortably, and is no longer “lost”.
If you or
anyone you know is concerned about Autism, here is what to look for:
Lack of or delay in spoken language
Repetitive use of language and/or motor mannerisms
(e.g., hand-flapping, twirling objects)
Little or no eye contact
Lack of interest in peer relationships
Lack of spontaneous or make-believe play
Persistent fixation on parts of objects
