“Watch for Falling Pine-Cones”

By Rusty Canevari

There is an artist within us all. On this Web Page, I will be sharing more of my drawings and I will be commenting on the topics of

Art, Humor, and the Gift of Creativity.

Picture Right:  Charles Schultz providing me friendly advice.

(and yes,... I used to have more hair)

Charles Schulz had a significant influence on my approach to drawing. He taught a cartooning class at the SRJC for one semester and I was lucky enough to attend. He emphasized to me that you need to make every line count.

In regards to the comic above, this is referred to as a universal law of humor.

In-Laws already carry humorous connotations and most sitcoms take advantage of this formula in their comedy routines.

While on a 2002 Vacation in Tahoe, my kids were feeding nuts to the squirrels. It was fun to show them a humorous look at a simple event .

The only comment I have about the comic above and the comic below is that, “Humor is in the Eye’s of the Beholder”.

I learned early in my career that Humor is a balancing act between funny and offensive. I like the cartoon below, because it’s simple, philosophical, and hopefully won’t offend anybody…

except perhaps, the local sheep.

Everyone in our family is a vegetarian except me, the cats, and our dog Pretzel, the Shitzu.

I’m not sure why, but this is my Son’s favorite cartoon .

I drew this quick sketch (below) while on vacation in Sedona, Arizona this past summer. My family said it really wasn’t that funny .  Oh well, I like it anyway . . .

I will leave you with a few final thoughts and a link to a great book…

“Art comes in many forms; We all have unique, creative abilities and I believe that it’s within the artistic expression where we discover that we All are incredibly special.”

I have provided a link to a website (below) by the author Dr. Betty Edwards. The book Drawing on the Right Side of your Brain had a strong influence on my ability to create. I also observed many parallels between Dr. Edward’s teachings and our school class “Career Transitions”. You set your personal boundaries based on your beliefs, and this includes your creative potential.
