The Love of Step-children

By definition of a step-child it says: a child of one’s spouse by a previous marriage.  For all you that have a step child or step children; you know how under defined that is.

Hi, my name is Faye Wolfe; and currently a full time student at Empire College.  I recently took on the task of three step-children: Michael (19), Ashley (13), and Kylia (5) (pictured).  Michael and Ashley currently live in Washington.  We don’t get to see them as much as we’d like, but we make do with what we are given.

Kylia on the other hand lives relatively close so we get her as often as possible.  She is my little slice of heaven.  When I realized that marrying my husband meant that I would have 3 step-children; it didn’t change my thoughts on the situation at all.  After realizing that children weren’t just a responsibility or a timing inconvenience; it made my realize that children whether they are yours or not; are such a blessing in disguise.

To receive unconditional love from such a small person and to be able to give unconditional love in return is a gift that can never be replaced by anything.  It is truly a blessing in itself.  To watch them grow and aspire is something that will put a smile on your face.  To watch and help them grow in not only health; but in their mind is priceless gift that shouldn’t be taken lightly.

In Step-familymatters.com ; it says “Be patient, keep a sense of humor; and let the message of love and respect get through.  Statistics say that 1 out of 3 Americans is now a stepparent, a stepchild, a stepsibling or some other member of a stepfamily.

Children are a very precious piece of our future that with the right step of direction can and will aid them in the planning in the rest of their life.  The simple fact that you are reading this and there is a chance that you might be a parent; shows you are a student at Empire College, trying to make a difference in your life as well as theirs. That means more to them than you know.  They might not show it only because they don’t know how; but they are thanking you.  80% of the children that has a parent that has attended college will go to college themselves.  The simple fact that you are here trying to better your future as well as theirs shows a lot.  So keep it up and pat yourself on the back and know that every time they smile when you get home from school they are saying “Thank You”.  Good Luck!
