Knowledge Breeds Freedom

Freedom

The Empowerment I Am Committed To Obtain

If we look through the pathways of History, Freedom was not given without individual want. Our ancestors obtained their personal freedom through both individual and combined efforts, alongside others who aspired toward the same goal. Often personal aspirations are birthed in increments through a series of life events. It is my personal aspiration to obtain financial independence and inadvertent individual freedom through an education with Empire College.

Within my first week of attendance I had the pleasure of meeting others whom seek after the same goal. Side by side we sat wide eyed, internally wondering if we really have it in us to complete the task. The commitment of ten months, twelve, and for some eight-teen months may seem trivial. But, for the mother who dropped her lactating baby at childcare for the first time, the father seeking to obtain security for his family, the single person hoping to move ahead, and the mid life adult returning to an institution of learning after years of raising children it can be a rather imposing feat. It was in the first few days of school here I realized I was not alone. Together we will face the daily challenges that will assuredly maintain a steady stream of protest against our personal commitment within ourselves. Together we will make it here one by one, meeting one another, greeting one another, hoping for each other’s best. We are not all so different, you and I. We share a common goal. Yes, for a myriad of reasons, but, together we ultimately seek a form of Freedom.  Side by side, we will step by step, obtain our goal. An aspiration worth fighting for, an aspiration worth cheering the woman, man or youth seated next to you for.

“Maintain that visual,” I say to myself. The picture in your mind’s eye, that drove you to the counseling office to make that first appointment. Inquiring about Empire College’s various Vocational Training Opportunities. Perhaps the one thing or plethora of things that lead you to pick up that phone and make that first call. And now, you are here sitting inside a classroom fulfilling a commitment to your loved ones, and most importantly to yourself. Your individual commitment to Freedom. To a life outside of debt and wondering. You will now have a career, a pathway to build on. Your pathway will be a mosaic of colors and pictures seasoned with experience. And perhaps one day a pathway that others can follow to their individual success.
